DOB: Site Safety License Types to Launch in DOB NOW: Licensing Beginning Oct. 16, 2024
Beginning January 1, 2025, any person acting as a Lift Director or performing the duties of a Lift Director must be registered with the Department of Buildings as a Lift Director, or be licensed by DOB as a Master Rigger, or be a Master Rigging Foreman and acting as a Lift Director under the direct and continuing supervision of the Licensed Master Rigger. See NYC Administrative Code § 28-424.2.

All Limited Gas Work Qualifications issued before January 1, 2020, will expire on December 31, 2024, regardless of the issuance date.

DOB to Waive Certain Civil Penalties, Failure to Correct Because of 7/19 to 7/21
Due to the global IT outage caused by CrowdStrike and Microsoft, DOB NOW: Safety was not available on July 19, 2024, and may not have been fully available on July 20, 2024, and July 21, 2024. Accordingly, the Department will waive civil penalties
DOB: Hoisting Machine Operator License will be Required to Operate an Articulating Boom Crane, Mini Crane, or Rotating Telehandler in NYC
Beginning November 7, 2024, an HMO license issued by the Department of Buildings will be required to operate an articulating boom crane, mini crane, or rotating telehandler in New York City.
NYC DOB: Clarification on Local Law 147 of 2021: New Definition of Major Buildings to Become Effective December 11, 2024
Effective December 11, 2024, the definition of a ‘major building’ in Section 202 of Chapter 2 of the NYC Building Code will change from an existing or proposed building 10 or more stories or 125 feet or more in height, to an existing or proposed building 7 or more stories or 75 feet or more in height.
