Construction Case Study: Stop Work Orders – Change of Contractor
Challenge:
A developer changing general contractors on a large commercial site faced two Stop Work Orders (SWO) from the DOB and DOT, leading to site backfilling and daily fines.
Solution:
Cahill Strategies engaged with the DOB, DOT, and the local Community Board to reach an agreement beneficial to all parties, minimizing community impact.
Result:
We negotiated with the DOB, allowing the developer and new GC to submit plans to rectify SWO issues, dewater the site, and proceed with the project. The SWO was rescinded, and agreements with the DOT allowed for proper sidewalk closure and equipment crossing. The Community Board supported the revised plans, saving our client approximately $750,000 in costs and fines.
