Port Jefferson, NY, November 16, 2016:
Over 80 students and faculty from four Suffolk County high Schools joined Long Island Coalition Against Bullying, Long Island Crisis Center, the Suffolk County Department of Health and Neighborhood House of Sayville for a day of discussion, exercises and education about bullying and suicide.
Inside the expansive Port Jefferson Village Center, students and teachers discussed how to recognize and diffuse bullying in schools and on social media. Participants also talked about how to recognize and understand teens in crisis and those contemplating suicide and how taking a proactive approach can save lives.
With suicide rates in Suffolk County having increased substantially in the last decade, educators and parents are becoming all too familiar with tragedy. Neighborhood House of Sayville, having worked tirelessly with survivors of suicide, has become more and more involved in education and prevention in addition to crisis aftermath.
For those in need of counseling or wishing to provide support, we urge you yo contact Michelle Virga, Cheif Executive Officer and Founder of Neighborhood House of Sayville at info@tnh-hope.org
