The NYC Department of Buildings has announced that, beginning September 1, 2026, all Electrical Plan Review (EPR) submissions must be filed through a new online intake form. For any firm that handles electrical work, this changes the first step of every filing, and the runway is short. Below is what applicants need to know.
The new online intake process
Where EPR is required under 1 RCNY §4000-01, applicants previously emailed the EPR unit to receive a job number and instructions on payment and submission. As of September 1, that email process is replaced.
New submissions must go through the [EPR Intake Form]. Applicants complete all required fields, and upon submission receive a confirmation email containing an EPR Job Number and further directions. The form accepts one application per submission and covers both initial filings and Post Approval Amendments (PAAs).
One important exception: responses to objections are not filed through the intake form. Those must be sent directly to the examiner to be resolved.
Filing fees and payment
Payment terms are unchanged, and payment remains an in-person step at DOB’s Central Cashier, located at 280 Broadway, 1st Floor Atrium:
- $650 for an initial filing. This includes new applications and previously approved EAB jobs that are now required to file as an EPR job.
$130 for a PAA filing, covering amendments to approved EPR applications.
A reminder on the 2025 NYC Electrical Code
All new EPR filings are being reviewed under the 2025 NYC Electrical Code (NYCEC) as of December 21, 2025.
