Local ambitions run high as Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne plans to step down from his seat and pursue the nomination for Hempstead Town Board. After serving more than two decades as a Nassau County Legislator, Dunne believes he has accomplished all he sought out to do for his constituents and knows they are in good hands if he leaves. If Dunne is nominated, it will be for retired Gary Hudes board seat in the 6th District. And although rumors within the past month have leaked for Dunne to run for the seat, Hempstead Town officials officially put it on the agenda for them to discuss. But this seat will not be easy to acquire as Dunne would have to go up against Democratic challenger Sue Moller who works within the Lynbrook High School system as a guidance counselor. At the same time, this would leave the 15th District of Nassau County Legislative seat vacant until November, leaving newly nominated Republican candidate John Ferretti Jr. and Democratic candidate Michael Sheridan to battle it out.
