Updated: October 23, 2023

Beginning November 8, 2023, registration and accreditation requirements will be implemented as prescribed in Buildings Bulletin 2022-014, Sections III.B and
III.D, respectively. The new requirements address revisions to 1 RCNY 101-06, effective July 13, 2023, which establish inspector qualifications for special inspections introduced in the 2022 NYC Construction Codes.

Registration Requirements for New 2022 Code Inspections

In accordance with BB 2022-014, beginning November 8, 2023, special inspection agencies must register directly for the special inspections introduced in the 2022 NYC Construction Codes (see list below) upon initial registration, registration renewal, and when adding any such inspections to their registration. Agencies will no longer be able to register for the corresponding 2014 Code established inspection prescribed in BB 2022-014 to satisfy registration requirements for inspections introduced in the 2022 NYC Construction Codes. A revised SIA1 application form allowing registration for the inspections introduced in the 2022 NYC Construction Codes will be published.

Accreditation Requirements for New 2022 Code Inspections

In accordance with BB 2022-014, by November 7, 2023, special inspection agencies performing Class 1 inspections for special inspections introduced in the 2022 NYC Construction Codes (see list below) must be accredited in accordance with 1 RCNY 101-06 with the 2022 NYC Construction Codes for the intended scope of work. Agencies performing such Class 1 inspections will be required to provide proof of accreditation upon initial registration, registration renewal, and when adding any such inspection to their registration.

Cahill Strategies Construction Solutions Guide to NYC Building Code Chapter 33 Revisions

Cahill Strategies has developed a detailed and documented guide to the most important revisions that New York construction professionals are likely to encounter every day. We were able to do this because Cahill Strategies has been involved instrumentally in the development of these codes.

The 100-page book is meticulously organized and can be used as a handy reference when many common issues arise. In each section, the specific revisions are highlighted, and the new information is presented in a clear and practical manner with further explanation on why the change is so important. All of this, reviewed and vetted by one of New York’s longest serving, former DOB professionals – Cahill Strategies’ Director of Construction Code & Safety, Bobby D’Alessio.
