While construction has long been an incubator of new tech, such as drone-based inspection, robotic brick-laying, and other types of automation, the industry is now poised to be one of the largest beneficiaries of AI and advanced robotics. – We urge you to look at Construction Dive’s 2024 tech forecast to see what’s to come.

Here at Cahill, we’re long-time advocates of high school robotics and STEM programs, and we’re thrilled to see our client, Associated Builders and Contractors, and industry leaders like Gilbane recognize the need to support the next generation as they prepare to advance our industry.

As long-time sponsors and organizers for Lindenhurst, New York’s FIRST Robotics Team 533, all of us at Cahill Strategies have a special place in our hearts for high school robotics programs. We’ve seen first-hand the transformation that occurs when a student discovers new skills and opportunities.

“FIRST Robotics inspires future leaders and innovators to reach their full potential and to be their very best. This program gives students the opportunity to learn skills in STEM and STEAM at the high school level, which most do not learn until undergraduate and graduate levels in college. These students have a great understanding of teamwork, work ethic, and applications of engineering and business management skills that better prepare them for the future,” says Daniel Cahill, Instructional Support Associate at Farmingdale State College and Team Advisor for Lindenhurst Robotics Team 533.

One of those students, Kali Nilsen of Lindenhurst’s Class of 2024, has been named among FIRST’s coveted Dean’s List Finalists for her leadership efforts in the FIRST and STEM community. Since joining the team, Kali has changed her plans for college to a STEM career focused on aerospace engineering. This trend is becoming increasingly familiar in high schools as more students pursue higher education in STEM or opt out of a college education entirely in favor of vocational training. For many students, trade school is a much more affordable option with a more reliable path to a fulfilling career.

“I’m so impressed with the FIRST robotics program. My children and my nephew have all been involved and continue to support and work with our local robotics team long after graduating. On a professional level, I think this is vital to our construction industry, and it is a rare opportunity to help shape the technology and the people who will one day run it,” said Diane Cahill, Founder and CEO of Cahill Strategies.

Cahill Strategies Construction Solutions Guide to NYC Building Code Chapter 33 Revisions

Cahill Strategies has developed a detailed and documented guide to the most important revisions that New York construction professionals are likely to encounter every day. We were able to do this because Cahill Strategies has been involved instrumentally in the development of these codes.

The 100-page book is meticulously organized and can be used as a handy reference when many common issues arise. In each section, the specific revisions are highlighted, and the new information is presented in a clear and practical manner with further explanation on why the change is so important. All of this, reviewed and vetted by one of New York’s longest serving, former DOB professionals – Cahill Strategies’ Director of Construction Code & Safety, Bobby D’Alessio.
